Both St Mary’s Hampton Poyle and St Mary’s Kidlington are just about 800 years old and they have been at the heart of their local communities for all that time. So we were looking forward to many celebratory events to be held in 2020, as well as making plans for work on both buildings to make them more able to serve the community now and in the future.
The first few celebratory events did happen, and were great fun, but then came COVID-19 so all other planned events were postponed until it is safe to hold them. But we have continued to work on our plans for the development of these two buildings to bring in facilities suitable for today and tomorrow. We will obviously add more information as we can; meanwhile you can find out more below, by visiting our Facebook page or by contacting us.
Heartfelt thanks to the Woodstock Music Society Chamber Choir for a superb concert in July 2021. They gave us a glorious selection of pieces from the 800 years our churches have been here for the community – a fitting start to our “post-COVID” fundraising activities. We are delighted that they were back for another concert on Friday 29th July, 2022.
Also in 2021 we held a Brass Ensemble Concert in Hampton Poyle in September, and a Concert by the Choir and Choristers of St Mary’s Kidlington in November.
The first of our events postponed from 2020 has now happened, with a glorious Open Gardens Weekend, on 2nd and 3rd July 2022. Thank you to all the garden and allotment holders who welcomed us to view their handiwork, and to all the visitors- see here for more details.
