We are thrilled to welcome David Briggs to St Mary’s Kidlington to give a special solo recital celebrating the 50th anniversary of the dedication of St Mary’s organ.
David is an internationally renowned organist, whose performances are acclaimed for their musicality, virtuosity, and ability to excite and engage audiences of all ages. Consistently ranked as one of the finest organists of his generation, David’s extensive repertoire spans five centuries. He is one of the foremost organ transcribers of symphonic works, and has been described as “an intrepid improviser”. He is currently Artist-in-Residence at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City and Organist Emeritus at Gloucester Cathedral, UK.
David will be treating us to a unique musical programme entitled “The Art of Improvisation” featuring improvisations in the style of JS Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Ravel, and composers from the French Grand Siècle. This spectacular recital will show off the power, subtlety and versatility of our unique organ – this is an event not to be missed!
